We offer a permanent exhibition Pride Overcomes Prejudice, temporary contemporary installations, films, lectures, genealogy. Meeting rooms and the Heritage Center Auditorium are also available for rent. The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center is an art center that represents the cultural production of African American in Charlottesville and in the global African Diaspora. It occupies the most historic portion of the Jefferson School City Center–the 1926 high school. The Jefferson School’s history dates back to October 1865, opened as a freemen’s school just 6 months after Emancipation Today the Heritage Center is a source for local history research and the permanent exhibition Pride Overcomes Prejudice. The Heritage Center also offers lecture, films, concerts and other special events. It makes its facility available for rentals for small to large meetings, fundraisers, weddings and symposia.
