Wariesi Flores, an R-Certified Sisterlocks™ Consultant and Los Angeles, California native, began practicing the art of Sisterlocks™ in 2008 and founded Sumptuous Locks in 2012. She decided to pursue this path at a time in which there were few media outlets targeting Sisterlocks™. In her experience, the demographic for most women wearing Sisterlocks™ were older, professional women. Wariesi was inspired by the opportunity to expand how the Sisterlocks™ story was told by creating the very environment after which she sought. Sumptuous Locks was born out of a desire to inspire, support, and empower young women who desired to “go natural.” Wariesi’s ultimate goal for her salon was to catapult a Sisterlocks™ movement and increase its visibility in popular culture.
