If you are new to the area, looking for a new church that is inclusive + anti-racist, don’t have a background of going to church or anywhere in between, we welcome you to Glendale. This is a faith community that includes people of many diverse backgrounds and faith journeys, single, partnered + married, old + young.

We are inclusive + affirming + reconciling.

We are an official Reconciling Congregation. This means that we are a safe place for all of God’s children to grow deeper (or begin) their faith journey – no matter who you love or how you identify. We are intentional in being in community with our LGBTQ+ siblings through Pride and other community events and actively support the work of Nashville LaunchPad, The Oasis Center and other life changing (+ saving) organizations.

What is worship + the community like?

People check out Glendale for the first time every week in worship @ 10am. You will experience a laid back atmosphere, a message of hope + love, upbeat music and people with diverse faith journeys – old and young, raised in the church, new to church, those from other denominations and faith traditions to some who question it all – you name it.

What if I’m not a Christian?

Not a problem. Bring your questions + doubts with you. And really, it is safe to assume that there are others already within our community who have some of those same questions + doubts that you do. You’ll find a safe space to explore those alongside us.

Glendale Methodist Church was founded in 1945 in the growing Glendale neighborhood of south Nashville. In 1968, with the merger of the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church, the congregation became Glendale United Methodist Church.

Read aloud in every worship service, we put these words into action as we seek to not only be a place of acceptance and affirmation for all of God’s children, but to also share the message out into the world of God’s undeniable and unconditional love for each and every person:

We at Glendale UMC want you to know that no matter:
Where you’ve come from or where you are going; what you believe or what you may doubt; what you are feeling or just not feeling; what you have or don’t have; and no matter whom you love – all of who you are is welcomed into this community of faith by a God who loves you and knows you by name.
