Po’Shines Cafe is one of Portland’s best kept secretes and the oldest Black American owned restaurant. It’s a hidden gem in the heart of the historic Kenton district – Serving contemporary soul food with a cajun flare.

Po’ Shines was inspired by a wonderful man named Cecil Wooden, nicknamed Po’ Shine by the Governor of Los Angeles, Mr. Tom Bradley. One of Cecil’s desires was to be able to get fried fish from a local restaurant that had a purpose and provided an excellent product.

Celebration Tabernacle Church launched Po’ Shines not only to provide great soul food and BBQ for the community, but to be a catalyst for underprivileged and disadvantaged youth who need a second chance at life. Located in the heart of Kenton, Po’ Shines stands as a city on a hill. Celebration Tabernacle Church developed its work readiness and culinary arts programs out of the need to provide job skills to meet the demands of today’s economic challenges.
