Serving contemporary Dominican cuisine inspired by New York City and reinvented with Chef Nelson’s take. Signature dishes include Camarones Criolla, Braised Oxtail, Fritura de Chivo, and Pernil.

We are a chef-driven eatery created by Top Chef Season 18 Contestant, Chef Nelson German. In June 2023, alaMar transitioned fully to a Dominican Restaurant serving contemporary Dominican fare with Chef Nelson’s interpretation.

Chef Nelson German’s latest restaurant alaMar Dominican Kitchen, represents his Dominican Republic lineage by offering an authentic regional food menu paying tribute to his roots. A NYC-style Dominican restaurant now open in Uptown Oakland, alaMar Dominican Kitchen spotlights German’s upbringing in Washington Heights, Manhattan and the foods he ate with his family at home and the local street fare in the neighborhood. German brings a unique take to family recipes with his contemporary NYC twist on traditional dishes.
