Growing up in Jamaica, family dinners were a tradition. Everyone gathered around to eat good food and enjoy good company made possible by our Mama Joyce. She’d whip up a mean concoction with fresh fruit and made fried chicken that was to die for. It is with these fond memories that we created The Island Spot — an authentic island experience complete with family recipes, tropical drinks, and the energetic beats of live reggae. With rich food and a vibrant atmosphere, we aim to provide a window into life on the island. And with a rum bar and meals straight out of Mama Joyce’s recipe book, we guarantee we’ll always hit the spot.
Growing up in Jamaica, family dinners were a tradition for owner Richard Thomas. His mother, Mama Joyce, made dinner, and his cousins, brothers, and sister all gathered around the table to eat and enjoy each other’s company. On Sundays the extended family joined them for dinner, and Mama Joyce made fresh fruit juice to accompany our meals. From mango, to passion fruit, to soursop, Mama Joyce would whip up a delicious concoction that complemented every meal to perfection. It is with these fond memories that our family created The Island Spot in 2010, where Mama Joyce’s recipes remain a staple for all of our dishes.
